Mary Kay Acne Treatment Gel contains 5 percent benzoyl peroxide and is effective for all-over treatment of acne. Although it contains a moderate amount of the drying ingredient, users say the formula is surprisingly gentle. It isn't reviewed as often as other recommended treatments.

Performance

Effective without the harsh side effects. Reviewers say Mary Kay Acne Treatment Gel is just as effective as other benzoyl peroxide treatments. One reviewer at MakeupAlley.com explains, "Benzoyl peroxide is benzoyl peroxide ... It worked as well as any other similar product ...." Users, however, say the formula is more gentle than most and it doesn't dry out skin. Skin-care expert Paula Begoun agrees. She says it's "a very good, gel-based topical disinfectant for those battling blemishes." She points out that the acne treatment contains soothing anti-irritants -- namely horse chestnut and cucumber extracts -- that help reduce redness and irritation.
