One of the most absorbent adult diaper products made in the USA, the Attends Extended Wear Brief boasts a high capacity and cozy fit. While it lacks inner leak guards and waist elastics, the product still holds its own in absorbency and wicking tests, and it appears to contain fluid well while keeping skin dry. The cloth-like outer covering makes for a quiet, discreet and comfortable brief.
Quick absorption keeps skin dry. When it comes to capacity, the Attends Extended Wear is in line with the premium adult diapers of today. The medium-sized brief holds 59 ounces of liquid, according to XPMedical.com, making it the most absorbent domestic product in their comparison chart. It also retains liquid remarkably well: In XP Medical's "press-out" test, the diaper released less than 0.5 ounce.
The product doesn't have any standing inner leak barriers, but according to the editors at Incontinence Resource Center and a number of users at Drugstore.com, the leg elastic is effective at containing leakage. However, one Overstock.com contributor said that leaks may be a problem for side-sleepers.
Cloth-like covering keeps things under wraps. The briefs feature a non-woven, cloth-like covering, which is designed to be soft and discreet. The material allows users to move quietly, unlike some plastic-based materials that have a tendency to crinkle. A reviewer at the Incontinence Resource Center notes, "If you are a very physically active person (walking, running, etc.), you may notice the padding does come apart in the front and sag down into the crotch of the diaper ... especially if saturated." Drugstore.com users commend the product's easily refastenable tape. "Unlike most diapers," one owner points out, "the tabs can be repeatedly readjusted for fit and still hold."
Passable protection against unwanted odors. Users and reviewers seem to agree that the Attends Extended Wear's odor control is not spectacular, but at the very least, decent. A contributor to Drugstore.com contends that the product excels at containing the odor of urine, and another user at the same website calls the odor control "not bad." The Incontinence Resource Center (IRC) says that because the side wings are breathable, the odor of concentrated urine is sometimes detectable, but that the briefs mask the scent of diluted urine reasonably well. "As would be obvious, these are not going to hold in the odor from a bowel movement," the IRC continues.
