What every best Air Conditioners has:
- Energy efficiency.
- A programmable timer.
- User-friendly controls.
Powerful and efficient. The Frigidaire FFRE0833S1 is a favorite of owners and experts for its powerful performance. It's Energy Star qualified, too, with a CEER rating of 12. It gets down rated a little at TheSweethome.com over noise concerns, though it still tests out well enough to be the runner up pick. In addition, while noise complaints from owners are not unheard off -- quite the opposite, in fact -- many others say instead that noise levels are actually quite acceptable, especially compared to other, and older, options. The FFRE0833S1 is feature packed, too, with niceties such as a temperature sensing remote and an ionizing air filter -- though feedback on the latter doesn't indicate if it is more or less effective than a standard air filter.
Easy to use, easy to install. This is one of the more feature-laden air conditioners in this price and size range, but the most useful plus is the temperature sensing remote control. The thermostat in that handheld unit will control the cooling level based on where you sit (or sleep) rather than at the main unit of the Frigidaire FFRE0833S1, which can be several degrees cooler. We did see some feedback that the thermostat in the remote could be more accurate, however, so set your temperature based on how cool you feel rather than a number on the remote's LCD display. Like most air conditioners, there's an eight way louver to direct air, but Liam McCabe at TheSweethome.com says that it's not equally effective in all directions and at least some air will always blow out of the right side. McCabe does note that installation is relatively easy, something that's undoubtedly helped by the fact that this unit is lighter than some competing models. User feedback largely concurs, with many owners listing ease of installation as a plus.
Good feedback. Owner feedback for the Frigidaire FFRE0833S1 is pretty positive. Scores are a little lower at Amazon.com, as is somewhat typical for various reasons including sometimes iffy marketplace sellers, but elsewhere scores are impressive, and that's based on ample feedback. Be sure to purchase from an authorized dealer, however, as we did see reviews that said that if an air conditioner is purchased from an unauthorized one, the otherwise above-average warranty (one year on the unit, five years on the sealed refrigeration system) might not be honored.
The Frigidaire FFRE0833S1 is Liam McCabe's runner up pick in window air conditioners. It has some pluses compared to his top pick, including easier installation and a better remote. On the minus side, while performance is generally very robust, he finds that this air conditioner is a little louder than some.
We found the biggest concentration of user reviews for the Frigidaire FFRE0833S1 at BestBuy.com, where it garners a 4.5 star score based on nearly 430 reviews, with around 92 percent offering it a recommendation. The noise level comes in for a few negative comments, but most either don't address that or say that it's fine, or even quiet. Installation and performance are both routinely praised. All reviews are from BestBuy.com users; a separate link to nearly 250 additional reviews posted at Frigidaire's site is also provided, but not included in these results.
The Frigidaire FFRE0833S1 earns an overall rating of 4.5 stars out of 5 in more than 290 reviews, though that total includes reviews originally posted that the manufacturer's web site. Still satisfaction is quite high, and, once again, around 92 percent offer it a recommendation.
We saw around 230 reviews of the FFRE0833S1 at Amazon.com. Most owners are pleased, but we also saw more negative feedback here than elsewhere. However, complaints are varied. Some say that they are unhappy with the cooling, that the air conditioner can be too loud for a bedroom, installation was too challenging for them, or that the unit arrived damaged or failed soon after it was received. Still, it garners an overall rating of 3.9 stars.
