Frigidaire FRA052XT7 (5,000 BTU)

This is the smallest, least expensive window air conditioner Frigidaire sells, and plenty of owners say it suits them just fine. At 5,000 BTU, the FRA052XT7 is only powerful enough to cool roughly 150 square feet, about the size of a small bedroom. Several users say the unit is nice and quiet; at just 16-by-12-inches, it may be your only option if you have really small windows.

The Frigidaire FRA052XT7 is a very basic model with few features: a thermostat to maintain a preset room temperature, an antibacterial filter and automatic restart for power outages. But unlike the Kenmore 70051 (*Est. $160), which we name a Best Reviewed pick, the FRA052XT7 doesn't come with a remote control or an on/off timer, and it's not Energy Star-rated.

While the Kenmore 70051 has been professionally tested, we found no expert feedback for the Frigidaire FRA052XT7. We did see lots of owner reviews, however, particularly at Walmart.com and Amazon.com. BestBuy.com offers a handful, as well.
