The Frigidaire FRA086AT7 8,000-BTU window-mounted air conditioner -- sold at Lowe's as the LRA087AT7 (*Est. $210) and at Best Buy as the FRA085AT7 (*Est. $230) -- will cool a room of approximately 350 square feet and receives a number of positive comments. However, one professional evaluation notes poor performance in the areas of noise, ease of use and balanced left/right airflow. One mostly favorable review lowers its rating based solely on the airflow issue: The owner says that although the unit advertises eight-way directional airflow, it blows only straight forward well. This may be a concern depending on the AC's desired location.
Nearly every review we found for the Frigidaire FRA086AT7 and its siblings praises its compact size and light weight, and subsequent ease of assembling and installing. In terms of noise, however, there are some differences between units; the FRA086AT7 is said to be extremely quiet while reviews for the LRA087AT7 at Lowes.com frequently complain of it being noisy. Most owners are pleased with this AC's cooling ability, and many appreciate the temperature settings and thermostat input in the remote control, which allows it to be placed in the area of the room you most want to stay a particular temperature. But if you rely heavily on the findings of professional lab tests, the LG LW8012ER (*Est. $220) is found to cool the same space with excellent results in areas where the Frigidaire falls short.
