February 2009. The Alen A375UV performs well in tests at Air-Purifiers-America.com, removing almost as many particles as the more expensive IQAir HealthPro (*est. $750), It also runs quieter than the IQAir HealthPro (on low and medium settings). The recommended room size for this model is 800 square feet; one expert downgrades that number to around 270 square feet for maximum performance. Maintenance costs are moderate: $180 per year, which includes twice-annual filter change (*est. $60 each) and annual UV bulb replacement (*est. $60). The Alen A375UV is similar to the Alen A350 (*est. $400) but with expanded electronic features and the addition of two UV lamps that help neutralize bacteria and viruses. However, since some experts still aren't convinced that UV lamps make much of a difference, you might consider saving the $200 and going with the Alen A350. Both come with Alen's lifetime warranty.
Air-Purifiers-America.com, one of the few sources that tests and compares air purifiers, has ranked the Alen A375UV near the top of their list. The enthusiast site Air-Purifier-Power.com also provides a detailed review of this model, as does the retail site AchooAllergy.com. Consumer Reports does not include the Alen A375UV in their latest review. A few owners have posted comments at Amazon.com, but unfortunately there are no owner reviews as yet at Epinions.com.

To thoroughly test air purifiers, retail site Air-Purifiers-America.com uses a high-performance laser particle counter that measures the removal of pollen, mold, dander and dust particles from the air. The Alen A375UV finishes a close second in its ability to remove particles from the air, ranked right behind the IQAir HealthPro series. Editors say the Alen A375UV is ideal for individuals with multiple-chemical sensitivity.
Review: Air Purifier Performance Test Results, Editors of Air-Purifiers-America.com
Ed Sherbenou, an air-purifier expert, likes the A375UV's electronic features -- not found on the Alen A350 model -- such as its remote-control operation, filter-replacement indicator, dust and odor sensors, automatic fan and auto-off protection (which kicks in when the front cover is removed or misaligned). He also praises the A375UV for its low maintenance costs, but he says the square footage rating of 800 is inflated. He recommends using this model for rooms approximately 270 square feet in size.
Review: New Air Purifier: Alen A375UV, Ed Sherbenou
Although this is a retail site, it provides detailed information about air purifiers, as well as brief reviews that list each model's pros and cons. The Alen A375UV is said to be an upgrade from the Alen A350, with convenient electronic features that the A350 model doesn't offer. As with the A350, editors aren't completely convinced of the effectiveness of the A375UV's ionizer, but they note that this feature can be turned off if owners choose.
