February 2009. The IQAir HealthPro Plus is identical to the IQAir HealthPro, with the addition of a carbon filter that helps remove odors. Like the HealthPro model, the Plus model receives top rating from Air-Purifiers-America.com, as well as from numerous other sites and publications. Interestingly, while this air purifier is also tested at Consumer Reports, test results are different than at other sites. Based on what the majority of other reviewers say, though, it appears that Air-Purifiers-America.com is on target. Experts praise the HealthPro Plus (which has a HEPA filter) for its large coverage area (900 square feet) and particle-removing ability, and say it's one of the best air cleaners for people with severe allergies. A few owners and experts note that this air purifier can be loud when run on its highest setting. It's also very expensive: The Alen A350 (*est. $400) performs almost as well in tests at Air-Purifiers-America.com and costs less than half the price.
The four best sources for air purifier reviews have evaluated the IQAir HealthPro Plus: Consumer Reports and Air-Purifiers-America.com, which both conduct detailed testing (although their methodology and results differ greatly); an enthusiast site, Air-Purifier-Power.com; and AllergyBuyersClub.com, a retailer that provides abundant information about the products sold on this site. Reviewboard.com also furnishes a review, as do a few owners at Amazon.com.

Air-Purifiers-America.com is one of only a few sources that tests, rates and compares air purifiers. Models are tested in an actual room about the size of a smalll office, and air purifiers are rated for performance on both low and high speeds. Noise level and ozone emission is also evaluated. The IQAir HealthPro Plus scores well for coverage area and percentage of particles removed, but it isn't the quietest model available.

The IQAir HealthPro Plus is one of 36 air purifiers discussed by Consumer Reports in its review. Their editors test models for dust and smoke removal, ozone emission and noise level by injecting allergens into a test chamber, then measuring the air purifier's performance on both high and low speeds at several time intervals. Their findings differ somewhat from other reviewers, most likely due to the difference in testing methods.

Although AllergyBuyersClub.com doesn't offer details about how they test air purifiers, they do provide thorough reviews that list both pros and cons. The IQAir HealthPro Plus is rated as the best in its category with few cons listed. While editors say the IQAir HealthPro series isn't the quietest of units, they add that they're not the noisiest, either.

Reviewer Ed Sherbenou reviews and rates air purifiers on this site and provides a categorized top-10 list. The IQAir HealthPro Plus easily comes out on top, and he places it in his "allergy shop" category. He uses this model in his own home, which speaks volumes considering his seemingly vast knowledge of air purifiers. Sherbenou also evaluates other air purifiers based on their mechanics, component and build quality, but he doesn't provide a comparison chart of the models he tests.

A small number of owners have posted to Amazon, and all except one give the IQAir HealthPro Plus the highest rating. One owner, who posts a rather detailed review, says that unless you have a significant odor problem, you might want to consider saving yourself money by buying the HealthPro model rather than the HealthPro Plus. According to this owner, you can always order a retrofit assembly from the manufacturer if you decide to convert your Pro to Pro Plus.

It's not clear if editors at Reviewboard.com actually tested the IQAir HealthPro Plus they review, but this write-up is in line with what other sources say, praising the HealthPro's large coverage area and particle-catching efficiency. They specify that this high-end air purifier is worth the price for individuals with severe allergies.
