Works wonders for me!, October 29, 2009

I have had many other purifiers and this one ranks in the top. 1. Air is Cleaner 2. Unit is easy to clean 3. Great controls and remote 4. 6 Speeds One Con is the cost. I am going to buy one for upstairs. This one I use in the basement. We cleaned out a mold problem and this seems to be taking care of any leftover spores and dust. Wish it were cheaper, but love it!

Strange Odor Outweighs Any Positives, September 29, 2009

I experienced the same strange odor emitting from the IQAir as another review. I initially called local authorized dealer and they said they had never had anyone complain of any odors before. Since the manual did say their may be some odor initially, I waited... and waited.. and waited. Now, over 16 months later, I'm done waiting. The unit fills the 12 x 12 room it is supposed to *clean* with an obnoxious odor my mother described as 'paint fumes'. Unacceptable for my newborns' nursery. I feel like a fool for spending so much money and time on something that fell so short.

Awfully expensive device., September 9, 2009

My child's allergist recommended that I get a room air purifier, so I did my research and bought the IQAir Health Pro Plus. I purchased it locally from an authorized dealer. For what it is worth, the purifier did nothing to improve my child's allergies. I can't blame the lack of child's improvement on this particular room air purifier. However, this unit emits a nasty odor from the charcoal filter, and it seems that this filter has contaminated the HEPA filter stacked above it--the odor is not there if the unit is operated with only the prefilter. Cost to replace these stinky filters will be $280, and who knows if the problem will return. There are supposed to be more than 7800 hours of life left on the charcoal filter and more than 14,000 hours of life left on my HEPA filter, but they just need to go to the trash. What a waste. I cannot endorse this unit with these problems, especially at the price. Not recommended.

Does the Job, Definitely has some flaws..., July 24, 2009

I've now owned this machine for approximately 3 months. (Long enough for one prefilter change.) Before I begin, let me give you some background information: I live in an area that produces most of the US grass seed.... and I've become severely allergic to grass. In my 750 sq foot apartment, I had two honeywell filters. Even so, I had to be on 20-60 mg prednisone for 6 weeks to be able to breathe. (Average dose was about 30-40mg prednisone/day and I could not leave the apartment). I got this filter partially out of desperation. I did not want to go through another grass season like that. I can't say (like some have reported) that I was able to be free of all medication, etc. But I got through the time with only 10 mg prednisone (which if you've ever been on it, you know that 10mg is VERY little!) and I could not tell if the pollen count outside was 30 or 1600. My breathing inside was no different. (And if I tried stepping outside, I felt like I was being hit with a sledgehammer, and my lungs would nearly instantly tighten up). So for me, this filter is a keeper. I was MUCH healthier this year than I was the previous years without it, and I'm very grateful to the company for making something that has given me such asthma relief. However, this filter is not without its issues that should be weighed in: Minor issues with this air filter: - This is a "slow-and-steady wins the race" filter. I would not expect you to feel serious relief from this filter for about 24 hrs after putting it in a room. Furthermore, if you have an exhaust fan running for any long period of time (ie, bathroom fan, kitchen hood fan, etc.) _this filter cannot keep up_. -Doesn't seem to filter out wood smoke (or perhaps one of the chemical byproducts of it) 100%. I was at a location where the front of the home had a wood stove that was belching out some smoke. Even though I was in a room at the other end of the house with a closed door, this filter couldn't clear the smoke enough for me. I was forced to leave. Cons: -It is "plastic-y." While the "lego-brick" construction is definitely ingenious, I'm concerned about longevity of the side clips and handles. If I'm paying that much for an air filter, I would expect the handles and clips to be rock solid, not like this. -VERY Pricey: Don't bother with this filter unless you really need it. If you are only an allergy sufferer, you might want to try the Honeywell filters first. -Prefilter is pricey. I never heard about the prefilter in reviews of this device (I only heard about how you only have to change the HEPA filters every few years). The prefilter is supposed to be changed 4 times a year and they are $50 each. (!!) Worse yet, the "change indicator" is only a timer. So you have no real indication of the performance of any particular filter or whether or not you actually NEED to change it. Conclusion: If it didn't perform its job so well, it would be a 3-star machine because of the cons. If you aren't dealing with some serious breathing issues, I'd pass on this machine. But if you are having serious breathing problems and would be willing to pay through the nose to get some relief, then I would HIGHLY recommend this machine.

Fantastic product, July 15, 2009

IQAir HealthPro Plus Air Purifier is a solid product. At the lowest setting it is quiet enough for my son to sleep with it in his room and the difference it made was amazing. Gone are all of the allergy symptoms that we have dealt with for years during certain months. This product works very well, is economical, despite seemingly high initial cost, looks very elegant and I like that it is made in Switzerland. My family liked the first unit we bought so much that we ordered a second unit for the office as well. One of the units came with a slight problem, after 5 minutes on the phone with IQAir, they FedEx'd me a brand new unit with prepaid shipping for the broken one. Great customer service! I recommend IQAir HealthPro unit to anyone who wants to invest in a product that will work wonderfully for years, backed by a great company and will be the last air purifier that one will ever need to purchase.

Where To Buy

Our Sources

1. Air-Purifiers-America.com

Air-Purifiers-America.com is one of only a few sources that tests, rates and compares air purifiers. Models are tested in an actual room about the size of a smalll office, and air purifiers are rated for performance on both low and high speeds. Noise level and ozone emission is also evaluated. The IQAir HealthPro Plus scores well for coverage area and percentage of particles removed, but it isn't the quietest model available.

2. ConsumerReports.org

The IQAir HealthPro Plus is one of 36 air purifiers discussed by Consumer Reports in its review. Their editors test models for dust and smoke removal, ozone emission and noise level by injecting allergens into a test chamber, then measuring the air purifier's performance on both high and low speeds at several time intervals. Their findings differ somewhat from other reviewers, most likely due to the difference in testing methods.

3. Allergy Buyers Club.com

Although AllergyBuyersClub.com doesn't offer details about how they test air purifiers, they do provide thorough reviews that list both pros and cons. The IQAir HealthPro Plus is rated as the best in its category with few cons listed. While editors say the IQAir HealthPro series isn't the quietest of units, they add that they're not the noisiest, either.

4. Air-Purifier-Power.com

Reviewer Ed Sherbenou reviews and rates air purifiers on this site and provides a categorized top-10 list. The IQAir HealthPro Plus easily comes out on top, and he places it in his "allergy shop" category. He uses this model in his own home, which speaks volumes considering his seemingly vast knowledge of air purifiers. Sherbenou also evaluates other air purifiers based on their mechanics, component and build quality, but he doesn't provide a comparison chart of the models he tests.

5. Amazon.com

A small number of owners have posted to Amazon, and all except one give the IQAir HealthPro Plus the highest rating. One owner, who posts a rather detailed review, says that unless you have a significant odor problem, you might want to consider saving yourself money by buying the HealthPro model rather than the HealthPro Plus. According to this owner, you can always order a retrofit assembly from the manufacturer if you decide to convert your Pro to Pro Plus.

6. Reviewboard.com

It's not clear if editors at Reviewboard.com actually tested the IQAir HealthPro Plus they review, but this write-up is in line with what other sources say, praising the HealthPro's large coverage area and particle-catching efficiency. They specify that this high-end air purifier is worth the price for individuals with severe allergies.
