IQAir New Edition HealthPro

Pros
  • Easy conversion to HealthPro Plus model with filter addition
  • Presetting functionality
  • Highly effective at dust and pollen removal
Cons
  • No V5-Cell filtration for gas and odor removal

Bottom line

Most reviews for IQAir-brand air purifiers focus on the IQAir New Edition HealthPro Plus. However, the IQAir New Edition HealthPro is the same model without the addition of the V5-Cell filter for gas and odor filtration. Other than that, the HealthPro can remove the tiniest particles while simplifying your life with its easy-to-use electronic controls. The IQAir New Edition HealthPro is less expensive than the Plus version, but it can be converted to the Plus by adding the V5-Cell filter kit after purchase.

Performance

Excellent at removing dust, pollen and cigarette smoke from air. The IQAir New Edition HealthPro contains the same upgrades as its counterpart model, the IQAir New Edition HealthPro Plus, resulting in the ability to remove microparticles as small as 0.003 microns in size. The IQAir brand consistently earns top marks by both professional and owner-written review sources, thanks to its superior purification capabilities and advanced filtration devices. Among the owners posting reviews to Amazon.com, most agree that the IQAir New Edition HealthPro makes a noticeable difference in their asthma and allergy symptoms.

Ease of use

Advanced electronic controls and presetting functionality. The IQAir New Edition HealthPro, like its HealthPro Plus counterpart, comes with a slew of advanced controls and features, including a filter change indicator, a remote control that easily navigates through the unit's six speed settings, and a programmable timer that allows you to set the air purifier to turn on and shut off at specified times.

Noise

Quiet operation, suitable for bedroom use. The IQAir New Edition HealthPro is relatively quiet during operation, according to owners posting feedback to Amazon.com. However, like most air purifiers, the noise level goes up according to the fan speed setting. Ed Sherbenou, who reviews a variety of air purifiers at Air-Purifier-Power.com, says that speeds up to Level 3 are tolerable for bedroom use with the IQAir models.

Cost of ownership

Filters aren't cheap, but spread out over time. The key difference between the IQAir New Edition HealthPro and the HealthPro Plus is that the Plus contains an extra filter -- the V5-Cell -- designed for gas and odor removal. The IQAir New Edition HealthPro doesn't have this filter, so there's one less filter to replace. However, it can be easily converted to the Plus version with the purchase of an upgrade kit (Est. $75), which adds the additional filtration layer. Owners must replace the prefilter (Est. $60) every six to 18 months and the HyperHEPA filter (Est. $190) every two to four years.
