The Baby Jogger City Elite was updated for 2012. Changes include a removable auto-lock, hand brake, easier access to the storage basket, magnets instead of Velcro on the canopy and an update to the frame and fabric. There are a few owners of older City Elite strollers who don't like the upgrades, but most expert and owner reviewers rave about the great storage, magnetic closures, easy fold and smooth ride.
Tops in safety. The Baby Jogger City Elite has a five-point harness system and a secure, linked, rear-wheel parking brake that is operated by a handle on the chassis. The front swivel wheel locks for better control on bumpy surfaces. An optional belly bar (*MSRP $34.95) can add another level of security. The buckle, which includes a fabric cover, is reported to be secure and not easy for younger toddlers to undo. There is a runaway strap that, unlike many strollers, is attached to the bottom of the frame, rather than the top, so there is no tipping hazard if it is tugged.
One safety caveat: Several reviewers, both expert and owner, say this is a good stroller for light jogging. However, Baby Jogger says this is not a jogging stroller and is not suitable for running or jogging.
Couldn't be simpler. The Baby Jogger City Elite gets high praise from experts and owners for its extremely easy-to-use features. The one-handed fold, one-handed recline and brake lever are reported as simple and hassle-free. Likewise, the handlebar and footrest adjust easily. At 26 pounds, it is not the lightest stroller, about mid-range for an all-terrain stroller, and some say it's hard to lift. It has an automatic, locking fold and carry handle. Reviewers say it's very easy to push and maneuver with one hand.
Great for all-terrain, may be large for stores. The primary user complaints about the Baby Jogger City Elite are that it is bulky to run errands with, with a wide base and long frame. However, even though at least one expert calls it a great stroller for around town, it is an all-terrain stroller and may be better suited for outdoor outings -- hikes, playgrounds, picnics, etc. -- where there is varied terrain.
The City Elite has a very high weight rating, 75 pounds, which, theoretically, could accommodate some 10-year-olds, but it also accepts newborns with its full recline. It is car seat compatible with optional adapters (*MSRP $24.95 for Britax B-Safe, *MSRP $69.95 for Universal), compact pram (*MSRP $169.95) or bassinet (*MSRP $259.95). The all-wheel suspension and well-padded seat make it a comfortable ride for kids of all ages.
The three-panel canopy on the City Elite is large, with one viewing window on top and two on either side that provide ventilation and enable older children to look out. The windows have magnetic closures rather than noisy Velcro, something experts rave about as it cuts down on waking up baby to take a peek. The cover on the back of the seat rolls up for ventilation. Storage is ample, with a large, under-seat basket and a large pocket on the back of the seat. The footrest and handlebar are both adjustable, and experts say this is a particularly good choice for very tall parents.
Unlike most Baby Jogger strollers, the City Elite has a three-section parent tray. Also available options are a child snack tray (*MSRP $24.95) or belly bar console (*MSRP $34.95). Other optional accessories include a rain cover (*MSRP $44.95) and glider board (*MSRP $79.95).
Solid warranty. The Baby Jogger City Elite comes with a limited lifetime warranty on the frame and a one-year warranty on soft-sided materials. Baby Jogger has an excellent reputation for customer service.

Owners say it's easy to fold, highly maneuverable and comfortable for their children. However, a number say that it's heavy, hard to maneuver in stores and takes up a lot of space in the trunk.
