PC Tools' Spyware Doctor 2010 has maintained its lead over perennial competitor, Webroot Spy Sweeper (Discontinued). Reviewers find that Spyware Doctor 2010 outperforms other standalone anti-spyware programs, and that it even stays ahead of the best security suites, such as Norton Internet Security 2010 (Discontinued). Ease of use is also praised, though some find that the information the software reports to users can be a bit technical. Reviewers also complain that the trial version doesn't remove malware, which deprives hesitant customers of a true test of the program's capabilities before buying one of the more expensive anti-spyware programs on the market.

Since Spyware Doctor 2010 is a relatively new version, reviews are scarce. It also comes in a very similar version that's bundled with anti-virus software (PC Tools Spyware Doctor with AntiVirus 2010 (Discontinued)). PCMag.com provides the most detailed and contextual analysis, though it focuses on the bundled version. StarReviews.com and Softonic.com evaluate the standalone edition, though testing is less thorough at those sites. Amazon.com only has a handful of user reviews.

1. PCMag.com

This review covers the version of Spyware Doctor that's bundled with antivirus software. Reviewer Neil Rubenking is impressed with how this latest release performs on malware, beating out competing programs from Norton, Prevx and BitDefender. Rubenking names Spyware Doctor a PCMag Editors' Choice.

2. Softonic

Niamh Lynch calls Spyware Doctor 2010 "efficient" and "simple to use," while still doing a thorough job of scanning and removing spyware. However, she isn't impressed that the trial version only scans a system, forcing users to buy the software before testing how well all its features work.

3. StarReviews.com

Spyware Doctor gets a Silver Star award at StarReviews.com, finishing behind Stopzilla. Reviewers here praise its ease of use and features, though price and technical support could use improvement. Also, it's unclear which version is being tested. Three user reviews are appended below the editors' review: Two love the program, but one complains that he couldn't get a refund when it didn't work.

4. Amazon.com

Only a few users review the latest Spyware Doctor program on Amazon.com. But scores for it -- as well as the earlier, antivirus editions of Spyware Doctor -- are relatively good. The biggest beefs here are about the crippled trial version and Amazon's shipping policies.
