March 2009. Sunbelt's CounterSpy is consistently named one of the top three anti-spyware programs. So far, Spyware Doctor (*est. $30) has been edging it out in reviews. According to users of previous versions, one advantage of CounterSpy, other than price, is that it's lighter on system resources than either Spyware Doctor or Spy Sweeper (*est. $25). If you prefer a full-featured suite, Norton Internet Security (*est. $45) has a highly rated anti-spyware component.
Sunbelt CounterSpy 3.1 hadn't yet been covered by the major reviewers at the time of this report. We did find a short but balanced editorial review at Download.com. Download.com and Softpedia.com also have a few early user reviews. PC Magazine's Neil Rubenking and CNet.com's Robert Vamosi both have in-depth coverage of version 2. We're looking forward to seeing their assessments of the latest release.
