Garmin Sucks, November 18, 2009

I encourage anybody thinking of purchasing a Garmin Nuvi expecially the Nuvi 755T not to purchase it. You will be sorry. This product from Garmin has major problems. Garmin is constantly sending out software updates to try in a vain attempt to fix the problems, but it does not work. It will eventually fail. Garmin's customer service sucks much ass. I suggest that you steer clear away from Garmin if you are thinking about purchasing a GPS unit. I had an older Nuvi model that worked fine, but the newer Nuvi products from Garmin are nothing but trash.

Garimin GPS, November 16, 2009
We lost our old GPS, so we decided to buy this one. Sorry to say, but whenever there's a new version of something, it's always best to wait till the price drops! I paid over $300 for a device that works just like the rest "ok", I should have just bought the $100 version and been happy
rediculous interface, November 16, 2009

back, back, back, back, back, back, back - It wouldn't bother me so much if there was a "home" button or another option to simply take you back to the map if you decide you don't want to go to a specific destination anymore, or if you don't want to look something up (many times i've waited for it to find POI's and it took to long so i just said forget it, i'll find something. That part doesnt bother me as much as after i decide to just drive around, i can't see the map unless i literally hit the back button 17 times. it's pretty, sleek, ads are inobtrusive, traffic is generally accurate, but for those people complaining about it not being 100% accurate all the time, you are wasting your energy because no traffic report is going to be 100% accurate all the time. use common sense with this one. if it's rush hour, there will be traffic. if there is a traffic jam in the middle of the night for no apparent reason, the liklihood of updating immediately is not very high. so friggin what! the traffic map is generally accurate and the arrival time with traffic is also pretty accurate, and if it's not it adjusts. ads are unobtrusive, and overall it's a good device - i got it on discount, so for what i paid it's fine, but i wouldn't be happy if i paid full price for it. i have always used garmins (running gps, etc.) so i'm partial to garmin, which is why i went with this, and even though i would get this again, i'm not hugely impressed with this device. it works, i generally like it.

Very Poor LCD Viewing Angles on my Garmin 755T, November 15, 2009

Got it from Costco with the preloaded with map version 2010.10 and with the latest firmware, but really surprised by the poor quality of the LCD. (I don't usually write reviews, unless there is a serious problem with a device that warrants spending time to write a review on) The good: The good news is that it works, I don't have a problem with the device freezing or error messages. Text to speech is very good on this garmin (has a more natural sounding voice) compared to a 2x5 series (which sounds more robotic). Plays MP3 and audible. The bad: The Garmin 755T that I got had a LCD with a very poor viewing angle. Tilt is up a bit, and the screen gets really dark. Tilt it down a bit, and the screen becomes white and washed out. I've used a Garmin 265W and a Roadmate 1430, both were budget/mainstream models and had an LCD display with decent viewing angles. But on my Garmin 755T, as long as GPS display isn't directly facing you, the display is washed out. A GPS without a decent display is completely impractical to use, and hence the reason for getting 1 stars. This GPS is going back. (If it had decent viewing angles, than i would've given it 4 stars) Other thoughts: I read good reviews for the 755T before I decided to buy it. So I'm not quite sure why the LCD display quality is so poor. Maybe the reviews were based on when the 755T just came out. Now that the 755T cost about half as much as it did a year ago, maybe Garmin decided to cut corners on the latest batch of 755T. The quality of the LCD is horrible, and not just the viewing angle, you can actually see the uneven backlighting pattern, especially when you set it to about 30% brightness.

Love it!, November 14, 2009

We've used our Garmin for 2 long trips and will never go back to printing out all those maps before we leave. Sara (we named our Garmin) has a few quirks, like telling us to make u-turns when we don't need to, but if you use common sense, you soon get used to it and just ignore it. Her pronunciation is really good and comforting when we are needing to turn, as she gives us plenty of warning. The lane assist is a great feature and the lifetime traffic is helpful sometimes. None of the stores in our area carry this model, so it was nice that Amazon had it. I would recommend looking on the web for user sites, where you can get a lot of tips for doing things with it that are not in the user manual (have to go online to print manual). Although we travel with a laptop, cameras, etc, if we have to leave the car, we always take "Sara". We feel we could lose the other stuff, but don't want to lose Sara! Sometimes she chooses a weird route, but we've learned some tricks to change it to the way we want to go. The MP3 player is junk as it will only play one track and then you have to go into a set of menus to pull up the next one. We had tried to put in an audio book. It's also helpful to carry state maps with you, but we rarely use them anymore. I never want to be without my Garmin when I travel.
