Bottom line

A pioneer in the stainless-steel water-bottle market, Klean Kanteen now has a product for babies called the Kid Kanteen Baby Bottle. Reviewers say this stainless-steel bottle is rugged and easy to clean, and the wide, well-vented nipple is a big hit with babies. But the bottle isn't compatible with other brands of nipples or the company's sippy cup tops, which is a big disappointment for such a pricey product.

Ease of use

Easy to clean, but some may miss bottle sleeve. Reviewers praise the Kid Kanteen Baby Bottle for being easy to clean, saying the wide neck makes washing easy. It's also dishwasher-safe and there are no complaints of leaks. The bottle comes with four pieces: bottle, ring, nipple and travel dome. Measurements are etched on both the inside and outside of the bottle, making them easy to see. The bottle has a slightly contoured hourglass shape that reviewers say makes it a bit easier to hold. However, like other stainless-steel bottles, it can get very hot or cold, and there's no compatible sleeve to help mitigate the temperature effect.

Durability

Made to last, and won't retain flavors. The Kid Kanteen Baby Bottle is made out of recyclable 18/8 food-grade stainless steel, which the company says won't absorb flavors or pass on any sort of metallic taste. Parents say the bottle is extremely durable, although it may sustain some dents or dings after being flung across the room. Experts recommend the Kid Kanteen for parents who regularly bring baby into the great outdoors because it has none of the breakability issues that are inherent with glass or the chemical issues that plastic-adverse parents worry about. The bottle comes with a lifetime warranty. Parents can choose from three nipple speeds to accommodate their child's changing feeding needs.

Lifestyle features

Feeding-friendly nipples. The Kid Kanteen Baby Bottle's medical-grade silicone nipple is relatively wide, ideal for babies who need a little help with latching on. The nipple is also vented to help cut down on gas and reflux, and the company says it resists collapse and promotes proper oral development. Experts say the nipple's ability to self-adjust during feedings helps it closely mimic breastfeeding. Kid Kanteen bottles aren't compatible with other manufacturers' nipples.

The company makes three wide-mouth caps that can convert the bottle into a snack container, mug or water bottle. However, the bottle isn't compatible with the company's sippy and sport caps, which reviewers dislike. The bottle comes in 5- and 9-ounce sizes, and is available only in natural stainless with a green ring. It's free of BPA, phthalates and lead.
