Ratings of the Graco iMonitor Digital Video baby monitor at user review sites are significantly below average. Experts discount the need for video monitors, which tend to do poorly in reviews in general. For those who still want video, the Summer Infant Day & Night Handheld Color Video Monitor with 1.8-inch Screen 02090 (*Est. $170) gets somewhat better reviews than the Graco version.

The baby-gear book "Baby Bargains," usually an excellent source of baby gear reviews, has very little to say about the relatively new Graco Video iMonitor other than to sum up early customer feedback. User reviews are also scarce, but posts at Amazon.com and Epinions add up to a decent picture of how owners feel about the Video iMonitor's performance.

Our Sources

1. Amazon.com

Amazon.com has over a dozen reviews of the Graco video baby monitor, enough to make it a useful source of information on this model. Ratings tend to be low, with nearly half the contributors giving the iMonitor a single star. Poor picture quality is a frequent criticism.

2. Baby Bargains

"Baby Bargains" covers Graco in their section on baby monitors, but the Video iMonitor is too new to get more than a short mention and "no overall verdict yet."

3. Epinions.com

Epinions has a couple of fairly short posts on the Video iMonitor. Owners report they are disappointed by spotty reception, an unclear screen, and electrical and battery problems.

4. Sears.com

There are only a handful reviews of the Video iMonitor on Sears.com, and the average score here is better than those on other review sites. One user points out that being able to see why a baby is crying can help parents decide whether or not they need to rush in.
