Bottom Line Bottom Line

The BabyBjorn Babysitter Balance is the sleek Scandinavian answer to traditional bouncers. When baby kicks or thrashes, the seat bounces -- no batteries or plugs required. Like most BabyBjorn products, it has a long lifespan and a good resale value, but a few parents say their babies prefer a traditional vibrating bouncy seats.

Keeps babies secure. Parents say the BabyBjorn Babysitter Balance feels safe and stable. There are separate weight limits for each seat position: 15 pounds for the flat Sleep setting, 22 pounds for the reclining Rest setting and 29 pounds for the upright Play setting. Reviewers say the three-point harness keeps babies secure because it comes up high on their bodies. Though newborns can use the seat, very small babies should not be placed in the upright positions until they have head and neck control. The Babysitter Balance comes fully assembled.

No electricity required. The BabyBjorn Babysitter Balance is completely baby-powered -- the more baby kicks, the more baby bounces. This simple design has fans among many owners, but a few note that their babies prefer traditional seats with battery-powered vibration. Parents also can purchase a toy bar (*Est. $35) that features spinning wooden balls and flowers. Because the seat folds completely flat, reviewers say it's easy to take from room to room or throw in the car for trips to grandma's house. The fabric seems comfortable, parents say.

Built to last. It's easy to remove the seat fabric from the BabyBjorn Babysitter Balance, reviewers say. The fabric is machine-washable and reversible, so parents can create four different looks by flipping the main seat and harness fabric. The seat can become a toddler lounger when parents remove the harness. The Babysitter Balance comes with a two-year express warranty, and customer service receives high marks. Some parents also note that the seat has a high resale value once their children have outgrown it.
