Where to Buy

The High Sierra Access laptop backpack can hold laptops up to 17 inches -- more than most laptop packs can handle. It also offers 2,700 cubic inches of storage and an easy-access back zipper for quickly removing a laptop without having to open the main compartment. The Access is designed with ergonomics in mind, with contoured, padded shoulder straps and a padded back for comfort. Angled compression straps on each side tighten the depth of the pack so it's less prone to the sagging common to some backpacks. While the spacious capacity is a plus for those who have lots of gear to haul, it can also be a downside: A number of owners say the Access is too large to be practical for everyday use. The numerous pockets and pouches are also both a pro and a con; the majority of reviewers say the "tons of pockets" are great for organization while others say there are so many pockets, they tend to lose things. The High Sierra Access is available in 16 colors and is backed by a lifetime warranty. If you're looking for a slightly smaller pack and don't need a laptop sleeve, reviews point to the High Sierra Fat Boy (*Est. $30), which offers 2,300 cubic inches of storage and multiple pockets for organization.

The High Sierra Access isn't included in any professional backpack tests, but hundreds of owner-written reviews attest to its functionality and durability. We found nearly 500 reviews for the Access on eBags.com and an additional 200 comments between Buzzillions.com, Amazon.com and LuggageOnline.com.
