There are no customer reviews available for the Pottery Barn Kids Mackenzie collection, because it's sold exclusively through Pottery Barn (which doesn't allow customer reviews on its website), but these stylish backpacks are on virtually every expert's roundup of the best backpacks -- sometimes more than once. With four sizes to choose from -- mini, small, large and wheeled -- there's a bag for every stage of a child's life, from toddlerhood through high school. The only complaint we found was about the wimpy wheels and handle of the rolling pack.
Select a size for your student. Pottery Barn Kids Mackenzie Backpacks are available in four sizes: mini, small, large and wheeled.. There are a plethora of compartments, including two exterior water bottle holders. There is even a headphone port and MP3 holder (save in the mini model). The one complaint our experts have: they're pricey. Monogramming is available for an extra $7.
Ergonomic design for heavy loads. The padded Mackenzie backpacks have adjustable straps that are fully adjustable and contoured to fit the shape of a child's back. Padded back panels add extra cushioning. A sternum strap helps to balance the load and keep it secure. One bonus that parents love: The pack has outer loops to secure a lunchbox.
A helpful video on the Pottery Barn website details the size guidelines for each age group.
Choose a non-rolling pack. The Pottery Barn Kids Mackenzie Backpacks get great reviews from experts for durability, with the exception of the rolling backpack. Reviewers say the wheels on the rolling pack are stable and that the handle may break easily. Otherwise, expert reviewers say they should last for as long as your child needs it.
The Mackenzie backpacks are made from waterproof, 600-denire polyester, a daypack-grade polyester. They can be wiped clean with a damp cloth, but are not machine-washable.
