Bell Ghisallo

Pros
  • Very comfortable
  • Oversized vents
  • Comes in three sizes for better fit
Cons
  • Expensive

The Bell Ghisallo bike helmet has been discontinued by Bell, but it is still widely available at online retailers like Amazon.com. In previous years, the Bell Ghisallo received good reviews as a safe, comfortable bike helmet. It has 17 oversized vents, and comes in three sizes. Owners praise the superior fit and the one-handed adjustable fitting system, saying it's easy to obtain a snug fit. A few owners point out the Ghisallo is best for those with oval-shaped heads (as opposed to rounder heads). The Bell Ghisallo comes in five colors and meets CPSC crash-test standards. If you don't want to spend as much, the Bell Citi (Discontinued) also gets excellent reviews and costs far less.

The best expert review of the Ghisallo is at the Bicycle Helmet Safety Institute website, where the helmet is compared to others. About a dozen owners at Amazon.com, Epinions.com, MTBR.com and Buzzillions.com rate and review the Bell Ghisallo bicycle helmet. These reviews are very helpful in learning how the helmet works under different situations, including accidents.

1. Bicycle Helmet Safety Institute

This organization rates bike helmets based mainly on design and quality of construction. The Bell Ghisallo has fewer vents than other helmets, but the vents are huge, which helps keep riders cool. It has a more rounded profile, but it still has a small rear snag point.

It is also praised for being cool and lightweight.
