Not everyone likes to wear a helmet, but most Nutcase reviewers like showing off this lid's interesting, sometimes silly, designs and fashionable color range. While the helmet received poor marks in one expert review's helmet testing, Nutcase fans contend any helmet is better than no helmet at all.
Poor safety rating. Nutcase helmets continue to be popular with fashion-forward riders, despite the "poor" safety rating given by one product testing agency after a series of rigorous impact-absorption tests. However, many Amazon users still like it for its ease of use. A spin dial at the back of the helmet makes on-the-go adjustment convenient, and the accompanying extra pads can be fastened on the inside to help with fit. Sizes run from small to extra-large; the company recommends measuring carefully before ordering. Because of the pads and adjustment dial, one pro reviewer says the Nutcase helmet took longer to set up the first time than other helmets.
The helmets are not as well ventilated as more traditionally styled road helmets, but they do have 11 air vents to keep riders' heads from overheating. Some reviewers who tested the helmet noticed a difference in heat retention, while others, mostly riders who cycle casually or commute short distances, say they felt no difference in heat discomfort from other helmet models. Because of the solid construction of injection-molded shell with expanded polystyrene (EPS) lining, Nutcase helmets are also heavier than most road bike helmets.
Easy-to-use magnetic buckle. Users recommend the Nutcase for commuters who cycle to work in the winter because a wool hat usually fits under the helmet for warmth and the magnetic buckle is easy to fasten with gloved hands. Most owners find the helmets comfortable, aside from a few who found the ventilation inadequate.
Humorous designs. A consumer advocacy group gives the Nutcase praise for ease of use, despite the poor safety performance. This may be a boon for helmet users who figure any helmet is better than no helmet at all. The biggest draw for these helmets is their quirky, fun styles for commuters with a sense of humor. Think of your head as a melon? Well, you can get a Nutcase helmet patterned like a watermelon. Pool player? There's an 8-ball design for you. Most contributors who reviewed the helmet on Amazon listed the dozens of colors and patterns as a top reason for purchasing the helmet over a more traditional-looking or better-vented road helmet.

Review Credibility: Very Good Bicycles Network Australia's reviewer looks at the Nutcase as a way to get around the common head-exposing road bike helmets, especially for balding bikers and those who want to weigh fashion sense with head protection. He likes that the Nutcase guards the part of the back of the head road helmets leave bare for weight reduction and aerodynamics. However, while covering more area, the reviewer notices the helmet is less ventilated. He notes that setting up the helmet the first time takes longer than with other helmets.

She notes that she does not ride long distances or ride at the hottest part of the day.
