Performance bike helmets are lighter and more ventilated than cheaper helmets, and reviewers say the Specialized S-Works Prevail is currently the cream of the crop. Although it is certainly not cheap, the Specialized S-Works Prevail is lightweight and has excellent ventilation, according to reviews. In fact, a number of reviewers say the S-Works Prevail helmet has better ventilation than any other bike helmet they've tested. The helmet comes in three sizes, which accommodate head sizes from 20 inches to 24.75 inches. It also includes a micro-dial fit-adjustment system, which testers say is easy to use and ensures a snug fit. Lightweight and comfortable straps are another plus. However, some reviewers think the Specialized S-Works Prevail is slightly bulkier than the previous version, the Specialized S-Works. It's also very expensive. If you can't afford to spend this much, the Giro Stylus (Est. $85) also gets high marks. It's not as light, but it has good ventilation for cyclists on a budget.
The Specialized S-Works Prevail helmet is covered in a number of professional reviews, including at BikeRadar.com, Singletrack.com and GearJunkie.com. Outside and Bicycling magazines also include the Specialized helmet in their recent buyer's guides.
Britain's BikeRadar.com says the Specialized S-Works Prevail helmet is easy to adjust and fits comfortably thanks to the rear fit dial. Ventilation is also excellent, although the helmet is a little bulkier than the model it replaced.
