Like other chain locks, the Kryptonite New York Fahgettaboudit Chain is tough and secure, but its heft and bulk make it difficult to transport. This is a good option if you need to secure multiple bikes in a permanent location.
Weight and bulk limit use. While chain locks can provide excellent security, most experts agree that their heft makes them impractical for bikers who want a lock they can easily ride with. Due to its substantial weight, the Kryptonite New York Fahgfettaboudit Chain is best used in one location, such as a garage or at home, where cyclists won't need to move it. The chain comes in 3-foot and 5-foot sizes, which are long enough to secure several bikes.
.Tough lock, weak keys. With 14 mm manganese steel links, the Fahgettaboudit Chain is a pretty solid build but is far from the thickest; the Blackburn San Quentin (Est. $90) has an 18 mm shackle. The Fahgettaboudit includes a dust cover to keep links clean of debris and prevent scratching or nicking bikes. Users say its one major drawback is the included LED light that's flimsy and breaks easily.
Delivers on security. Chain-type bike locks look aggressive and tough, but they can be vulnerable to bolt cutters. However, a chain bike lock is a good option for securing multiple bikes together or as additional security when used with a U-lock. The Kryptonite New York Fahgettaboudit holds up longer than other chain locks in tests, and it's far better than a cable lock. It comes with one year of theft protection up to $3,500, which is high compared to other locks on the market.
