Bushnell Legend Ultra HD 10x42

Cheap binoculars

  • Lightweight
  • Good value
  • Perform well in low light
  • Stiff focus dial
  • Poor eye relief
  • Lens caps easy to lose

Bottom line

At about $250, the Bushnell Legend Ultra HD 10x42 binoculars offer an excellent value for the price. Though they're overall a great-performing pair of binoculars, users will notice the sacrifice in eye relief and flimsy feel.

Bang for your buck. Although Bushnell's Legend Ultra HD 10x42 binoculars aren't the best in class, many agree they represent an excellent value for the money (Est. $250). Users find they offer a very clear image and perform similarly to more expensive binoculars in low-light conditions. However, many user reviewers complain of the inadequate eye relief. OutdoorLife.com testers enjoyed the clarity and bright image, but had negative things to say about the finicky eye relief. Users agree it is difficult to maintain the optimal viewing distance from the eyepiece. Overall, these are a lightweight (22.5-ounce) pair of binoculars with above average performance at a reasonable price.

Ease of use

A few complaints. One of the most common complaints with the Bushnell Legend Ultra HD 10x42 is that the lens caps tend to come off fairly easily, making them easy to lose. One user on OpticsPlanet.com comments, "Did not give a 5 overall because the lens covers are loose and fell off the first time [I] used them in the field…" A stiff focus wheel is another common complaint; sometimes this is not the case immediately, but an issue that arises over time. While these are fairly common complaints, most users still believe the binoculars are a good value.

Flimsy, but mostly OK. The Bushnell Legends are made of magnesium and coated with hard rubber. Waterproof and fog-proof, they appear to be decently built, but there have been a number of complaints of pieces coming off or breaking, and of the binoculars sometimes arriving this way in their packaging. The good news is that they come with a limited lifetime warranty and a one-year money-back guarantee if you are not completely satisfied.
