The Waring PBB25 receives mixed reviews. Professional testers agree that it's an average performer: Cook's Illustrated calls the cloverleaf jar "tippy," and says that it's hard to scrape clean. Testers say that other blenders do a much better job crushing ice than the PBB25. Most owners, however, seem to like this blender, which they say does a great job with frozen drinks. The KitchenAid KSB560MC (*est. $120) earns better overall scores in this price class.

Consumer Reports, Cook's Illustrated, and the Wall Street Journal have put this blender through a battery of tests. In addition, more than 65 owners have reviewed this blender at Amazon.com.

Our Sources

1. Cook's Illustrated Magazine

Testers at Cook's Illustrated don't recommend the Waring PBB25. They report problems with the glass jar design: Not only was it difficult to remove processed food from the narrow, cloverleaf-shaped jar, but it also felt "tippy." Cook's Illustrated gave the Waring Pro PBB fair to poor scores in every test, including ice crushing -- a benchmark for any blender. It should be noted, however, that Cook's Illustrated attempted to crush 15 ice cubes in just 5 pulses.
