Is it curtains for Saab?

General Motors just announced that the deal it had in place to sell Saab to Koenigsegg Group AB, a consortium led by Christian Von Koenigsegg, whose Koenigsegg Auto manufactures ultra-exotic supercars, has fallen apart. This does not bode well for Saab's future, which is now very much up in the air. In its brief press release, GM quotes CEO Fritz Henderson as saying that the automaker will "assess the situation and advise on the next steps next week."

Destination reached: The best Black Friday GPS deals are...

We've covered a few Black Friday GPS deals already, but in the time since those initial offerings leaked onto the web, the big guns -- Target and Wal-Mart-- have one-upped pretty much everyone else when it comes to aggressive pricing on portable automotive GPS units. If you've been thinking of picking up a GPS for yourself, or plan to give one as a gift, there are now a couple of clear cut winners to choose from.

Cookin' with Black Friday gas grill deals

For a lot of the country, grilling season's been over for a while. That hasn't stopped Lowe's and Home Depot from advertising a couple of okay-sounding gas grills in their Black Friday circulars. The former is dangling a dirt-cheap Charbroil Quickset while the latter has a more premium-sounding Brinkmann offering at a middle-of-the-road price. Which is a better bet?

Black Friday could be good for car deals, too

Maybe you're not looking for a sweet deal on a stand mixer or an electric razor this Black Friday. Perhaps you have a more substantial purchase in mind. You know, even bigger than, say, a new flat-panel TV. Suppose you decide to avoid the mall entirely and instead head to one of your local car dealers. Are there deals to be had on Black Friday? According to a report by CNNMoney.com, the answer is yes.

Need directions? Garmin still leads the way

Once again, the experts agree: If you're going to stick a portable GPS device to your car's windshield, your best bet is to go with a Garmin. The manufacturer's auto GPS units earn consistently high reviews from professionals and owners alike, thanks to their ease of use and attractive features such as free traffic information for the life of the device. The latter even applies to the budget-priced Garmin nuvi 265T (*Est. $185), a Best Reviewed pick in our latest report on portable automotive GPS devices.

Clock's ticking: Pontiac new-car supply in U.S. dwindles

The end of General Motors' Pontiac division will be lamented for years to come. No, not because anyone's going to miss stuff like the G5 coupe (a rebadged Chevy Cobalt) or the laughable G3 Wave (a rebadged Chevy Aveo). Those cars exemplify the kind of dealer-placating product decisions that helped shepherd GM towards bankruptcy, muddled the Pontiac brand's identity, and ultimately contributed to the division's outright cancellation. What people will miss are  bright spots in the lineup. There were a few, after all, and if you want a piece of that good history in your garage, you'll need to act fast, because the dealer stock is drying up.

On Black Friday, cheap electric razors abound

It looks as if there'll be no shortage of men's electric shavers offered at Black Friday sale prices this year. Based on what we're seeing in leaked circulars from Sears, Kmart, and Kohl's, you'll be able to choose from one of the best-reviewed rotary shavers overall -- the Norelco arcitec -- as well as a variety of second-tier models from the top manufacturers at attractive prices.

Braun, Norelco deliver electrifyingly close shaves

One thing's certain: men no longer have any excuses for being poorly-groomed. Even if you shun the dizzying array of excellent traditional razors on the market today, you can still count on getting a consistently close shave from the best men's electric shavers.

If a foil shaver is your preference, the Braun Series 7 760cc (*Est. $235) is dubbed the "king of shavers" by the U.K.'s The Sunday Times newspaper. It's expensive, but it gives a close shave, is self-cleaning, and holds its battery charge for a long time. If you prefer a rotary-style electric razor, the Philips Norelco arcitec 1050X (*Est. $175) is the top pick. It's cool-looking, is comfortable to use, shaves well, and is easy to clean.

You can read about these best-reviewed razors, as well as the top wet/dry and budget models, in our freshly-updated report.

Drilling into Black Friday deals at Sears, Kmart, and Lowe's

Now that more Black Friday ads are being leaked (intentionally or otherwise), we're able to get an expanded picture of what some related items will be going for when the Christmas shopping season kicks off in earnest. Today, let's sort through some of the various cordless drill deals to see where the best values are.

Get a grip with the best winter tires

For most of the country, winter's just around the corner. (And for some of you, it's already arrived.)  If you generally experience mild winters, you may be able to get by with a set of all-season tires, but if you'll be doing a regular amount of driving on snow-covered roads, experts say you're better off storing the all-seasons for the winter months in favor of a proper set of snow tires. Winter tires employ tread patterns and specialized rubber compounds designed to maximize your car's grip on snow and ice, making winter driving safer. We researched expert and consumer reviews  from a wide variety of websites and publications, including Scandinavian ones, to determine which snow tires are best.
