If you're looking to buy a steam mop this holiday season, you're probably wondering whether you can get a good deal on Black Friday. Retailers seem to be offering at least one discounted steam mop that day. The leaked Kohl's circular reveals they will offer the Shark Deluxe Steam Mop (reg. $109.99) for only $49.99. Sears is also cutting prices on two steam mops: the Bissell Steam and Sweep (reg. $149.99) for $119.99, and the Haan Steam Mop (reg. $149.99) for $104.99. We did some research to determine if any of these mops are particularly good deals, and came away disappointed.
Steam mops to steer clear of
The Shark Steam Mop Deluxe at Kohl's seems like a lemon, at least according to reviews on Amazon.com. Several owners say their mop broke down early, or stopped working right after the one-year warranty ended.
The Bissell Steam and Sweep has about seven reviews on Amazon.com, and owners are split down the middle. Some owners love the mop's versatility, while others say it left film, spots and scratches on their floors. Due to the limited number of reviews and mixed feedback, we're leery about the Bissell advertised at Sears.
A steam mop worth considering... but not on Black Friday
The Haan Steam Mop at Sears definitely seems like the best bet in terms of performance. It earns an impressive average overall score of 4.5 out of 5 stars at Amazon.com, with about 50 users giving it positive reviews. Haan mops have the unique ability to produce 212-degree steam, killing germs in just one second. Since the mop head has 15 holes in it, it's not likely to leave a floor too wet -- as long as you change the microfiber pad once it gets soaked. Weighing less than 4 pounds when full, it's lighter than most other steam mops and therefore easier to maneuver, especially under furniture.
However, Sears' Black Friday discount on the Haan isn't very impressive. You can easily snag one of these mops on Amazon for about $114, so Sears is really only taking $10 off. You may decide to purchase a Haan steam mop at some point, but there's no need to battle the Black Friday crowds.
