If you had been eyeballing one of those Black Friday deals on TVs, but were still sleeping off your turkey hangover on Black Friday, fear not. We've been saying all along that TV deals will continue throughout the holiday season. Consumer Reports recently tested the theory in a more scientific way, commissioning a review of the daily prices of its recommended electronics from last year's holiday season. The takeway? The cheapest prices (at least for the magazine's top picks) were not found on Black Friday, but in the first two weeks of December.
Says Consumer Reports:
"Specifically, more than a quarter of the recommended TVs and cameras were at least 5 per cent cheaper between Cyber Monday and December 13 than they were earlier, including during the Black Friday weekend. With laptops, we provided Decide.com with a smaller sample of models, but the resulting data indicated that consumers would have been at least as likely as with TVs and cameras to save on recommended models by waiting."
So there you have it. We've said it, now Consumer Reports has said it. If you're worried you missed out if you didn't make it to the stores on Black Friday, don't sweat it.
Our electronics editor, Carl Laron, says that some of the store-brand doorbusters may sell out, like the $80 Dynex TV (a 24-inch model) at Best Buy. (Consumer Reports did not track prices of such low-end electronics). We'll continue to see sale prices on electronics for the next couple of weeks at least, although an exact model might not be on sale again, similar items certainly will be.
