Discovery Kids Animated Safari lamp

On February 9, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a recall of Discovery Kids Animated Marine and Safari Lamps after the manufacturer, Innovage LLC of Foothill Ranch, Calif., received at least seven reports of fires. One reported injury involved a child who suffered smoke inhalation in one of the fires, and three other fires resulted in minor property damage. The fires result from a defective circuit board that can cause an electrical short.

This recall involves Discovery Kids Animated Marine Lamps with the model number 1627121 or 1628626. The recalled Animated Safari Lamps bear the model number 1627124 or 1628626. Manufactured in China, the lamps were sold nationwide from July 2009 through January 2010 for about $10.  The lamps have a silver finish with "Discovery Kids" printed on the top left corner, and feature rotating scenes of wild animals or tropical fish.

Affected units have 11-digit batch numbers that begin with a 2. You can find the batch number at the bottom of the lamp, as well as on the bottom of the box it came in.

If you have one of the recalled Discovery Kids lamps, you're asked to stop using it immediately and contact Innovage at http://www.lamprecall.org for a full refund.
