Sending love letters via snail mail is for nostalgic romantic. This year, you can make Valentine's Day a little more modern. The following apps will help take memorable Valentine's Day photos, assist you in writing love poems, and even send virtual kisses. And if you were looking to find out just how compatible you and your loved one are, there's an app for that, too.
Valentine Camera+ ($1.99 for iPhone, $1.99 for Android)
Valentine Camera+ allows you to convert a normal photo into a Valentine's Day memory. The app comes with 20 different image frames that you can add to a new photo or to a saved image. When you launch the app, your smartphone's camera is activated and the main screen shows four rectangular frames to choose from including one decorated with hearts and another with red roses. You can then share your photos via email, Facebook or Twitter, or save them for when you see your loved one in person.
iWrite: Love Poems ($0.99 for iPhone)
Whether you're a poet suffering from writer's block, or a novice who doesn't know where to get started, iWrite can help you compose love poems, step-by-step. And if that's still not enough to get you writing, the app can put together a poem for you based a few pieces of information. This way, you can impress your loved one in a matter of minutes.
Be Mine Hearts (Free for iPhone)
Back in high school, we used to share Sweethearts candy on Valentine's Day. This year, you can send a virtual candy; thanks to the Be Mine Hearts app. Simply shake your iPhone to browse through candy hearts with different messages. Once you've got one you like, you can add your own message below it and email it to your loved one or post it on their Facebook page.
Kiss N Blow ($0.99 for iPhone)
Kiss N Blow lets you send kisses to your friends via email or SMS. You just have to kiss your iPhone screen and blow that kiss away. The app even lets you choose from a variety of kisses, including a Scuba Kiss, done underwater, or an Eskimo Kiss, with your nose. You can also send a kiss to Planet Earth to show your environmental awareness. In the "kisstory" section, you can view all the kisses you've sent and to whom. Make sure your phone screen is clean before you pucker up!
Love Actually - Love Calculator (Free for BlackBerry)
Were you and your loved one made to be together? If you're keen to find out, let this app help you. All you'll need to do is type in your two names and the app will calculate how compatible you are (results are given in percentages). The latest version of this app asks for your date of birth - for "better accuracy," the app developers say. The results displayed are based on an "advanced calculation routine," but what exactly that routine involves is not revealed. Thus, if you get a low score, don't let the app scare you away.
