Shopping for major appliances doesn't sound that Christmas-y, but if your refrigerator is on its last legs, we spotted some good discounts at Sears, Best Buy and Home Depot. All three are advertising French-door refrigerators as part of their Black Friday sales, with sale prices ranging from $798 to $1,399, but not all of them are good bets.
If you want a fancier French door refrigerator...
Head to Best Buy. The store is selling the Samsung RF267AERS 26-cubic foot fridge for $1,400. That still sounds expensive, but this is one luxe fridge -- stainless steel, interior wine rack, roomy interior and a through-the-door ice and water dispenser. As for reviews, it's almost identical to one of the Best Reviewed fridges in our report, the $1,600 Samsung RF266ABWP, which has an interior ice/water dispenser rather than the easier-to-access through-the-door dispenser on the RF267AERS. The $1,400 sale price represents an $800 savings over the regular price.
The Samsung refrigerator is also a better deal over a similar LG French door refrigerator selling for $1,498 at Home Depot during Black Friday weekend.
If you don't care about stainless steel but still want French doors...
Check out Sears. The Kenmore 78302, on sale for $750, is white instead of stainless, and it skips an ice/water dispenser for just an ice maker nestled in the freezer compartment. But at $750 on Black Friday (the fridge normally sells for $1,200), that's a substantial savings. Reviews-wise, the picture is mixed. Most of the handful of owners posting to Sears.com say they love it, but a few complain of breakdowns, and a couple of owners say they were ultimately glad they bought an extended warranty.
Home Depot also has a cheaper French door fridge in white, the LG LFC207603W for $798. However, the LG model is only 19.7 cubic feet in size -- a lot smaller than the 23 cubic foot Kenmore version, which has the same features.
