The Flexicado with an avocado

We thought that our latest mystery gadget would be tricky, but boy were we wrong. Most of you guessed that our gizmo was a tool for avocados, but there was some heated debate on whether the correct nomenclature was a slicer or peeler.

To confirm once and for all: our gadget is the Flexicado, from chef'n, and it is, in fact, a slicer. The product, available in both plastic and stainless steel, is designed to swoop into a halved avocado and cut the inside into even, clean slices. It is dubbed "Flexicado" because the tool, when gently squeezed, actually flexes to fit the size of your avocado.

User reviews say the Flexicado is easy to clean and dishwasher safe.  The manufacturer is also very clear that the product is constructed to be safe around kids as the blades are not very sharp. Cusioned areas on the handle make it comfortable to hold.

Here is a promotional video from chef'n demonstrating how the product is supposed to work:

KLTV did their own testing of the Flexicado, confirming that it works well for ripe (soft) avocados, but for fruits that aren't quite ripe, the Flexicado didn't work as well. User reviews are generally positive; many owners state that the Flexicado can actually make the process of slicing even messier than with a standard knife.  Others note that it works better on larger avocados than smaller ones.

Two lucky winners get to see for themselves if this handy device really slices as advertised.  The first reader to guess correctly was Alana Amaya.

And while the majority of the guesses were on the money, there were quite a few very creative submissions as well.  Staff favorites included "yeti footprint maker" and "dog tail fluffer." However, our winner for most original guess goes to "Gems610" who wrote, "After all your shrunken head process has been completed, the hair needs to be groomed.  You gently place the head through the object so that the 'teeth' comb the matted and knarled hair into a straight and beautiful finish for the final look."

Congratulations to both winners who will receive their Flexicado shortly!

Thanks to everyone who participated. If you have any fun mystery gadgets that you think would stump our users (or even our editors), post them to our Facebook Page.
