Birth control pills.

This week's recalls include several brands of birth control pills that might be ineffective because of incorrect packaging. Read on for our weekly roundup with links to additional detailed information on model numbers and contact information and tips on what action you should take.

Ooops. Some 1.4 million birth control pills recalled because of packaging error

Qualitest Pharmaceuticals issued a voluntary, nationwide recall of eight brands and multiple lots of birth control pills because the blister packages were rotated 180 degrees putting the placebo pills in the week where active pills should go. As a result, women might take the incorrect daily regimen, leaving them with inadequate contraception and at risk for unplanned pregnancy. The recall affects Cyclafem 7/7/7, Cyclafem 1/35, Emoquette, Gildess FE 1.5/30, Gildess FE 1/20, Orsythia, Previfem, and Tri-Previfem. Specific lot numbers can be found here.

Dehumidifiers recalled again for lack of response, property and safety risk

LG Electronics re-announced a recall first issued in December 2009 of certain Goldstar and Comfort-Aire dehumidifiers because they pose a serious fire and burn hazard, and are believed to be responsible for $1million in property damage. Only two percent of the 98,000 consumers who purchased the units have requested a free repair kit.The recall was reissued because consumers remain at serious risk for physical and property damage. Consumers looking for a replacement should consult our report on top-rated dehumidifiers.

Undeclared milk allergen in dumpling product

M&P Food Production recalled 11,000 pounds of chicken, beef, veal, and pork dumpling products because they may contain undeclared milk, which was in the sour cream used to make the dough. The dumpling products, which go by the brands Bapehuku, Babushka, Russian Brand, Siberian Brand and Siberian Style, were produced between March 18, 2011 and Sept. 19, 2011, and were distributed to retailers in Connecticut, Florida, Massachusetts, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and South Carolina.

What Should You Do?

If you own any of these products, check the product code against the specific product codes found on the manufacturer's recall press release, which we have linked to above for each individual recall. For details on these and other recalls, including product recall press releases, how to obtain a refund or manufacturer's recommendations to obtain a fix for your product's problem, the U.S. government maintains an online recall clearinghouse at Recalls.gov for six of its agencies that issue recalls.

For any recalled product, the CPSC recommends consumers stop using it right away. And remember, it's illegal to knowingly resell or attempt to resell any recalled product.
