Don't let these recalls spoil your Memorial Day Weekend fun. Careful if you make your weekend feast using Circulon cookware: One 13-piece set was recalled because a glass lid can shatter, posing a laceration hazard to the cook. And while salads are usually among the healthier alternatives in backyard barbecue smorgasbords, several bagged salads and other salad ingredients were recalled this week, because a salmonella or Listeria contamination can make you extremely ill. In other recall news, Jeep recalled certain 2010 model year Wranglers because of a potential fire hazard.
In kitchen and food safety
Meyer Corporation recalled 4, 600 Circulon 13-piece Cookware Sets because the glass lids used with the 5-quart covered sauté pan can crack, break or shatter, posing a laceration hazard to consumers. Meyer has received 65 reports of broken or shattered lids, but no injuries. The defective sets were sold exclusively at Costco retailers and through Costco.com from October 2011 through March 2012. Consumers may contact Circulon customer service at (800) 326-3933 to receive a replacement lid. Cookware can be a major investment, so before purchasing a set be sure to read our cookware report for the latest and best options for you.
There were also quite a few food recalls this week. Watch out for the following items:
Chrysler Group recalled nearly 68,000 2010 Jeep Wranglers with automatic transmission because the transmission skid plate near the catalytic converter can collect debris, which may then ignite, resulting in a vehicle fire. Chrysler will notify owners during May 2012, and dealers will replace the skid plate with a skid bar, free of charge. Owners may contact Chrsyler at (800) 853-1403.
