Butter cookies and glass of milk

Rite Aid recalled 85,000 tins of Rich Fields Butter Cookies contaminated with a stomach-churning microorganism. BMW recalled its 5 Series and 7 Series due to circuit board issues. And several food manufacturers recalled products because of undeclared ingredients.

Food Safety

Rite Aid stores voluntarily recalled 85,000 tins of Rich Fields Butter Cookies suspected of being contaminated with Bacillus cereus, a microorganism which can cause diarrhea, nausea and/or vomiting. The recalled product, sold exclusively in Rite Aid stores, comes in 12 oz. tins featuring either a decorative castle or Christmas designs and the UPC codes 01249596519 and 88411804619 on the bottom of each tin. No other Rich Fields or Rite Aid brand products are affected by this recall.  Customers can return the cookies to any Rite Aid store for a full refund.

Wells Enterprises recalled limited packages of Blue Bunny Personals Ice Cream because of mispackaging and an undeclared wheat allergen. The recalled ice cream products were sold in 5.5 fl.oz cartons, with Lot Number 10009, Best Used By date of 10/1/2012 and UPC code 0 70640 00463. On a limited number of packages, the lid correctly describes the product as Blue Bunny Super Chunky Cookie Dough ice cream, while the carton portion of the package is incorrectly labeled Blue Bunny Peanut Butter Panic ice cream and does not declare wheat, which is an ingredient in the Super Chunky Cookie Dough product. The product was shipped to retailers in 16 states: Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennyslvania, Tennessee, Texas and Wisconsin. Consumers can return the product to the store of purchase for a full refund.

Windsor Quality Food Co. recalled 11,390 pounds of chicken potpie empanadas because they may contain foreign material. A food distribution worker found plastic in the product. The products subject to recall include 10-lb cases each containing 4 boxes of 27- count "Molly's Kitchen Chicken Pot Pie Empanadas," with the product code of "953397" and best before date of "Aug. 30, 2012."

Vehicular Problems

Luxury auto maker BMW issued a recall on several 5Series and 7Series vehicles because the circuit board for the electric auxiliary water pump can overheat, which could lead to a smoldering of the pump or an engine compartment or vehicle fire. The recall affects 32,084 automobiles including certain model year 2011 5-Series, Model Year 2010-2011 5-Series Gran Turismo, Model Year 2009-2011 7-Series, Model Year 2010-2011 X5 SAV, and Model Year 2008-2011 X6 SAV vehicles equipped with 8- or 12-cylinder turbo charged engines. BMW will begin notifying owners in December and dealers will replace the auxiliary water pump free of charge. Owners may contact BMW Customer Relations and Services at 800-525-7417.

Superluxe auto maker Lotus recalled more than 5,000 2005-2006 Model Year Elise and Exige vehicles because the oil cooler line can detach from its fitting, increasing the risk of crash from spillage, or fire. Lotus will notify owners and dealers will repair the vehicles free of charge. Owners may contact Lotus at 800-245-6887.
