wireless headphones

If you like to watch TV in bed while your spouse is sleeping or take in action movies while your roommate is studying, wireless headphones are in order. Not only will they help immerse you in your program, but you don't have to worry about being asked to turn down the volume. Wireless headphones are typically thought to be sonically inferior to corded headphones -- inferior enough for many to write them off altogether. But wireless technology has improved and with it, sound quality. A perfect example of this is Sennheiser's RS 160, which use Kleer technology, a standard that offers CD-quality audio without interference, solving two issues that plague Bluetooth and RF wireless technologies. Kleer wireless also draws less power, so battery life is as much as 3 times that of Bluetooth headsets. Here are some highlights from our newly updated report on wireless headphones.

Even the snobbiest audiophiles have great things to say about the Sennheiser RS 160 headphones and its sibling, the RS 170, both of which incorporate Kleer technology. Reviews say the RS 160's are well-padded and comfortable. The headphones comes with a small base station that transmits to a range of up to 60 feet, giving you room to roam. Sennheiser says you can expect about 24 hours of battery life on your RS 160. The Sennheiser RS 170 offer extra bass, surround sound and a charging base. For now Kleer wireless is available only on Sennheiser headphones (in the U.S.), but expect to see more manufacturers joining the fray as the technology evolves.

Those looking to use wireless headphones while working out don't have to spend so much to get decent sound quality. Motorola's Motorokr S9-HD Bluetooth headphones are built to withstand a rigorous, sweaty workout and offer good enough sound quality to keep you motivated on the treadmill. The only downside is that the band is not adjustable, so it's best to try them on, if you can, before buying a pair.

Our report on wireless headphones also covers the best Bluetooth stereo headsets for cell phones, the best gaming headsets and alternatives for all budgets. We also have reports on wired headphones and earphones.
