And so it begins: Underwhelming and misleading Black Friday "deals" at Sears

Here we go: The first of the leaked Black Friday circulars are being hastily scanned and slapped online at sites like BlackFriday.com and BFAds.net. But as we saw last year (and pretty much every year), it takes a keen eye and a lot of research to separate the actual good buys from the dross.

Today's case in point: the partial Black Friday circular from Sears. Most of it is clothing and jewelry, so it's probably not complete, but there's a page of small kitchen appliances that represent most of the problems with these Black Friday deals in microcosm.

Buying a stand mixer on Black Friday? Don't sacrifice quality for cost

A recently-leaked circular announced that Macy’s will offer the Sunbeam MixMaster 2594 for $59.99 on Black Friday (a $10 rebate is also applicable, bringing the total cost down to $49.99). The Sunbeam normally retails for $99.99. Target is offering an even cheaper model, the Sunbeam Mixmaster Hand/Stand Mixer (regularly $50), for only $25. At half their normal prices, these sound like amazing deals, but are these offers too good to be true?

Who's got the best Black Friday deals on stand mixers?

If you’re looking to score a deal on a stand mixer on Black Friday, Kohl’s is offering three models at reduced prices. A recently-leaked circular announced that they will offer the KitchenAid Professional 600 for $399 (normally priced at $499), the KitchenAid Artisan for $299 (regularly priced at $359), and the Kitchen Classic Plus for $199 (normally $259). Each mixer also includes an extra 10% in-store discount and a mail-in rebate for additional savings.

Sears will also offer comparable savings on the KitchenAid Classic for $199 (an additional $50 off can be achieved via mail-in rebate), as well as the KitchenAid Artisan for $299 (the final price is $269 with a $30 mail-in rebate). The stainless-steel Pro 500 is available at the same price as the Artisan. Sears also promises an additional 10% in-store discount on all stand mixers.

Sunbeam mixer is cheap, but maybe too cheap

Shoppers trying to score a cheap, reliable mixer this Black Friday may be tempted to head to Target. A recently-leaked circular revealed that the store will be offering the Sunbeam Mixmaster Hand/Stand Mixer for only $25. Normally priced at $50, this seems like a great deal. The hitch? We found iffy reviews.

Kohl's KitchenAid mixer deal reigns supreme this Black Friday

Attention, kitchen mixer fans. Kohl's is the place to be this Black Friday. A recent leaked circular has revealed the store will be significantly discounting three highly-rated KitchenAid stand mixers, offering them as doorbuster deals.

Mixed blessing or mistake?

Tis the season for holiday baking -- and if you're in the mood for a little mixing there's no better pick than the KitchenAid Artisan Series Stand Mixer. This best-reviewed product consistently receives top marks in both professional and owner reviews. Users love its 10 convenient speeds, powerful performance and bright sunny colors -- so we were psyched to see it on a leaked circular for Sears 2009 Black Friday sale.

The store plans to sell the KitchenAid that day for $270. The hitch: A microscopically small caption states that this price can only be received via mail-in rebate. And even then, Sears is only shaving a measly 20 dollars off the mixer's regular price.
