Black Friday "deals" on steam mops are a hot mess

If you're looking to buy a steam mop this holiday season, you're probably wondering whether you can get a good deal on Black Friday. Retailers seem to be offering at least one discounted steam mop that day. The leaked Kohl's circular reveals they will offer the Shark Deluxe Steam Mop (reg. $109.99) for only $49.99. Sears is also cutting prices on two steam mops: the Bissell Steam and Sweep (reg. $149.99) for $119.99, and the Haan Steam Mop (reg. $149.99) for $104.99. We did some research to determine if any of these mops are particularly good deals, and came away disappointed.

Are steam mops as effective as other household cleaning products? If you're shopping around for one, there are some factors to consider. Steam mops are designed to clean vinyl, tile, sealed wood and laminate flooring with hot water, eliminating the need for scrubbing and harsh chemicals.  This  makes steam mops particularly beneficial if you have pets or children crawling on the floor, because they don't leave any chemical residues. In essence, the mop heats the water until it becomes steam, which gets shot through a pressurized nozzle in the mop head. Some mops can actually create steam hot enough to sanitize floors and kill dust mites in mattresses.

Target's leaked Black Friday circular reveals that the store will offer the Bissell Steam Mop Deluxe, normally $100, for only $50 that day. We think this is a good deal, since the regular Bissell Steam Mop is a Best Reviewed item in the most recent ConsumerSearch report on steam mops.
