The CHI 1-inch Flat Iron Straightener ($90 on sale) caught our eye in the Target Black Friday circular, because it's one of the Best Reviewed products named in the ConsumerSearch report on flat irons. It's a favorite of professional reviewers, earning kudos from ConsumerReports.org, Cosmo Girl magazine and Pursebuzz.com.
Owners like it, too. More than 1,300 users rate and review the CHI flat iron at Amazon.com, where it earns a solid rating of four stars out of five. A whopping 1,500 users rate the CHI at Folica.com, giving it a similarly high average score. Target.com shoppers give it an average of four stars out of five, too, although there are only about 80 comments at that site.
But is this Black Friday deal really a bargain? Not really.
Granted, the Black Friday price for the CHI 1-inch Flat Iron Straightener is about $30 less than the regular Target price. But you can buy the CHI for less at Amazon.com (*Est. $70) and at Folica.com (*Est. $70), and a couple third-party Amazon retail partners offer the flat iron for even less. It should be noted, however, that this is one product whose price varies widely among retailers; we've seen it priced as high as $135.
Our advice? Unless you find yourself at Target and absolutely must have the CHI 1-inch Flat Iron Straightener that very minute, save some cash and buy it from Amazon.com or Folica.com.
