A&D Medical LifeSource UB-512

Wrist blood pressure monitor

Pros
  • More accurate than other wrist monitors
  • Compact
  • Lifetime warranty
Cons
  • Less accurate than upper-arm models
  • Positioning can be tricky

Wrist blood pressure monitors are less accurate than units with a traditional upper arm cuff. They're more compact and portable, however, and some users say they find the wrist cuff easier to put on than an upper arm cuff. The A&D Medical LifeSource UB-512 receives higher marks for accuracy in independent testing than other wrist monitors. It has a 60-entry memory that stores morning and evening readings, irregular heartbeat detection and result averaging.

Owners like the UB-512's portability, and most say it reads true and works quickly. Some users, however, report that the monitor gives erratic results if it isn't positioned exactly right. Others say they wish it had a few more features, such as time-stamp recording and a larger memory. Those features are included with the A&D Medical LifeSource UA-787EJ (*Est. $60), an upper-arm blood pressure monitor that ranks highly in reviews.

ConsumerReports.org has a 2010 roundup of blood pressure monitors that includes the A&D Medical LifeSource UB-512. Amazon.com is the largest source of user reviews, but reviews for two other models are mixed in, so read carefully. Additional user reviews are available at Walgreens.com and Walmart.com.
