If you want to use the same Bluetooth headset for music and phone calls, the Plantronics Voyager 855 is a comfortable stereo Bluetooth headset with great call quality, thanks to the boom microphone and noise-canceling technology. Most reviewers are impressed by the design, which enables you to use a headset in one ear for phone calls and to add an earbud to your other ear for stereo sound. (The earbuds are attached to each other with a cable.) Music playback, however, isn't the best. Fit can be an issue, and the Voyager 855 doesn't have multipoint technology, so you can't pair it with two devices at once. The Voyager 855 Bluetooth stereo headset is compatible with the iPhone.

Jamie Lendino at PCMag.com gives his usual detailed feedback. TreoCentral.com and Treonauts.com also report on their hands-on tests of the Plantronics Voyager 855, and WMExperts.com presents a video review. Though Nicole Lee at CNET reports many findings as a result of her test, she doesn't comment on music sound quality. Reviews at Amazon.com are helpful in identifying how happy owners are with this headset in everyday use.

Our Sources

1. PCMag.com

Jamie Lendino praises the Plantronics Voyager 855's call quality, though he's disappointed with music playback, describing it as "middling to poor." Controls are easy to use and the headset is comfortable. Tested battery life matches the advertised seven hours.

2. Treocentral.com

In this review of the Plantronics Voyager 855, Andre Kibbe isn't impressed with either call or music quality, describing both as "unremarkable." He's enthusiastic about the selection of earpieces and hooks in the package, and he gives this stereo Bluetooth headset a high rating for comfort and design.

3. Treonauts

On this blog for Treo enthusiasts, the Plantronics Voyager 855 gets an Editor's Choice award in part for its "elegant" and "ingenious" design. Unlike other reviewers, this blogger thinks both calls and music sound great. He gets a good fit, which may account for the Voyager 855's strong music performance in his tests.

4. WMExperts.com

In this video review, Dieter Bohn approves of the Plantronics Voyager 855's convenient design, but he feels that call and music quality are only slightly above average. Bohn recommends a dedicated stereo Bluetooth headset if you're more interested in music than in calls.

5. CNET

CNET's Nicole Lee describes the call quality of the Plantronics Voyager 855 as "stunning," but doesn't comment on music quality. She complains of instability when sliding the boom microphone in and out, and she doesn't like the small buttons.

6. Amazon.com

Most Plantronics Voyager 855 owners are pleased, with a predominance of four- and five-star ratings. Users report audio quality depends on a good fit, so if the included earpieces make it difficult to hear calls and music, invest in other earbud covers like the Etymotic Research ER20-CCA.
