Great stove, September 29, 2009

Once again, I am surprised by how great MSR's stuff is. This stove is great for backpacking with its small size and weight and the super fast boil times in all conditions. I have used this stove from winter to summer and everywhere in between on multiple trips over the 3 or so years Ive had it. It is very easy to adjust the flame from very low to huge, which is sometimes lost in lightweight fast stoves. The only two drawbacks I have seen in the few years Ive had it is when using the 8oz fuel, it gets a bit top heavy and at low heat the flame is easily blown out. The last issue is an easy fix by just placing an extra pot or lid to block light wind, but a wind shield would be recommended with higher speed winds.

1. Backpacker.com

The MSR Pocket Rocket doesn't score as highly as the Snow Peak LiteMax, but reviewer Casey Lyons calls it a good bargain. Lyons says the Pocket Rocket performs well in bad weather, but he describes its stability as "iffy."

2. Backcountry.com

Rocky Thompson says the MSR Pocket Rocket is a "screaming deal." In this scientific test, the Pocket Rocket performs well in wind and freezing temperatures, but it burns fuel quickly and is not as stable as other stoves tested.
