As noted in a review in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, a $1,500 canister vacuum doesn't necessarily clean better than a $300 model. In one major roundup of canister vacuums, the Aerus Lux Guardian scored in the middle of the pack, well behind models costing four or five times less. Still, upscale buyers may be impressed by this vacuum's cyclonic suction, high-efficiency filters and "air breathing" tools.
Perhaps because it's so expensive, the Aerus Lux Guardian is tested by only one source, Consumer Reports, which includes this premium-priced bagged canister vacuum in its recent roundup of the category. The Aerus Lux Guardian is also discussed in an amusing article in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette about the trend toward "status symbol" vacuum cleaners.

In this amusing article, Carpenter explores the phenomenon of high-priced "status" vacuum cleaners, including the Aerus Lux Guardian. She doesn't try out this canister vacuum, but she does point out that the suction and noise levels of super-premium vacuums aren't necessarily better than those of their low-priced competitors.
