Dyson has several top-rated upright vacuums on the market, but has made only a few canister models, including the now-discontinued Dyson DC21 Stowaway. Reviewers were impressed by this bagless canister vacuum's futuristic look and advanced technology, including cyclonic suction and a pop-out dust bin. It did well in independent testing, especially on bare floors; some owners say its performance on carpet is just so-so. Current Dyson canister vacuums include the Dyson DC22 Turbinehead (*Est. $700), the Dyson DC22 Motorhead (*Est. $800), the Dyson DC23 Turbinehead (*Est. $400) and the Dyson DC23 Motorhead (*Est. $600).

The Dyson DC21 Stowaway canister vacuum is included in the latest round of independent testing from ConsumerReports.org. The U.K.-based Which? magazine covers the DC21 Stowaway, as well. We did find a detailed write-up at the Canadian website Future Shop, but it's not clear if the writer actually tried out this vacuum. Amazon.com and Epinions.com have a few dozen very positive user reviews between them.
