Dyson Stowaway dc21 VERY dissappointed!, November 20, 2009

I have had my Dyson Stowaway for almost 2 years now and I have had to contact Dyson twice this year about the crappy hose breaking into!! I am very careful with this vacuum and only use it in my home,I have ALL hardwood floors. The last customer service agent I spoke with ask me what i did with my vacuum as they just replaced the hose in April of 2009 and that hose has already broken again and it's just November 2009. I ask the agent to make notes in my account about this continuing problem.I ask her where these hoses were made and she told me Malaysia. That may be part of the problem, who knows. They have always sent me a new hose at NO cost to me but who knows what will happen if this hose breaks again. The agent said that they will have to investigate further if it happens again! I have offered to send them the old broken hoses back and they tell me they don't want them. I also ask her if anyone else had this problem with the hose and she said that she had only had 3 complaints. Has any one else had this problem?? I'm just wondering.......thanks for any feedback.

Not it's biggest fan, November 10, 2009

So I go to the store because my previous upright (the Dyson DC14), has seen it's last pass over our carpets. Because we have a long haired Norwegian Forest Cat I am set on getting a Dyson ANIMAL. Too bad, the club store I am at doesn't carry it anymore, and the only one left in stock is the floor model which comes with none of the tools, paperwork or box. Despite the sizable discount on an already great price, I decline. So I reluctantly get this model over The Ball because the canister on that model is the size of a 1.5 liter bottle of soda. It literally looked like a stick vac! Here are my reasons for disliking The Stowaway: 1. It is not an upright. 2. The tools don't seem to fit right on board, and keep falling off. (You can easily interpret that to mean: I WILL LOSE THEM, and it won't be long before I have to replace each piece. KA-CHING!!) 3. It only wants to roll one way: FORWARD. The front wheel does not swivel, so you have to pick it up and move it if you are changing directions, (I HATE THAT!) 4. The canister is small so I'm constantly emptying it. (I not only have a long haired kitty, I also have a husband with an affection for baby powder.) *****But the top reason I HATE this vacuum is that the cord is WAY TO FREAKING SHORT!***** I live in a 3 bedroom apartment in NYC where we are notorious for being big on rent and small on square footage, and sometimes this cord won't even make it to the other side of the room! It's a good thing the builder put a lot of extra outlets in each room or I'd need an extension cord just to vacuum. Dyson thought of so many other ingenious details, (the head is more compact so you can now get under low-lying furniture, and there is a foot groove on the head so you back right around a leg while vacuuming underneath of a piece of furniture instead of having to get down on your hands and knees to get the same area clean), but why didn't he think of putting a cord that is longer than 10 feet on it? I can't even imagine what I'd do if I lived in a large home with big rooms! On my DC-14 I could plug it in in my living room, (the front of the house), and vacuum almost halfway into the back bedroom before changing outlets. Now I have to change outlets in the living room. Granted, they've improved with age and it definitely has better suction than my previous one, but these are not reasons to give it any more than 2 stars. Sorry Dyson, you missed the mark with this one!

Sometimes we cant go by name alone, May 22, 2009

For the past 3 months since I bought this machine I have mentally written my review of it every time I vacuumed my house. Dont get me wrong... I absolutely am a 100% Dyson fan when it comes to the uprights. I also spent the last 5 years of my life owning a cleaning company both in Europe and in America so I have had my share of vacuum experiences. The canister is such a let down. The cord is way too short, the quick draw pipe suction for corners and crevices you can get from the upright is totally lost on this big clunky wand. I hate how the hose kinks constantly, oh it sucks the life out of your every fiber of your carpet, but will also eat any loose ends. This is an over priced vacuum with a lot of wow factor to look at, which is all I do with mine now since I have both the DC 07 (which in Dysons defense I give ********** ten stars) I tend to just haul the DCO7 up and down the stairs and glare at the DC21. What is Mr Dyson's problem with the attachments also? They are not all included AND irk of all irks are NOT interchangeable with other Dyson models. I feel it is my duty to mankind to write this review. Please dont buy this overpriced excuse for a vacuum.

Dyson does not honor warranty!, May 12, 2009

This vacuum is all plastic and some of the connecting pieces are rather small. After 2 years, mine developed a slight crack. Unfortunately, the crack is in a place that prevents the dust bin part from fitting securely on top of the HEPA filter. Dyson will not repair the vacuum as their designated service center in my area says they have never heard of a Dyson cracking (search the internet for proof to the contrary!) and I must have "misused" it. The warranty sounds good on paper but good luck getting Dyson to honor it. I wish I'd bought a different brand.
