Reviewers agree that the canister vacuums in the Miele S4 series do a great job on bare floors, without spitting dust back out. At only 11 pounds, Miele S4 vacuums are among the lightest canister vacuums on the market and are easy to carry up and down stairs. The now-discontinued Miele S4210 Carina canister vac received praise for its above-average reliability, low dust emissions, build quality and ease of use. It has been replaced by the Miele S4212 Polaris (*Est. $400), which is identical except for its light blue color.

The discontinued Miele S4210 Capella, Antares, Sirius and Carina vacuums used the same base canister unit and motor. They only differed by color and the type of standard floor tool with which they shipped. These vacuums receive the most thorough reviews from overseas sources: U.K.-based Which? magazine and Australia's Choice magazine, which can be considered contemporaries of ConsumerReports.org. This Miele canister vacuum is also mentioned by ConsumerGuide.com and receives some comments from owners posting to Amazon.com.

3. ConsumerGuide.com

The main complaints about the S4210 canister vacuum here are Miele's complicated naming system (the Carina, Antares, Capella and Sirius are all identical, except for color and attachments) and the Miele canister vacuums' high prices. Other than that, the Miele earns top marks, although the writer says it could do a little better on carpeting.
