When it was a current model, owners seemed to like the no-frills Panasonic MC-4620 canister vacuum, which was one of the best-reviewed canister vacuums in its price range. If you can still find one, the Panasonic MC-4620 comes with a few tools, but it has no telescoping wand, and its power cord is fairly short. Also, because this vacuum lacks a brushroll, it doesn't work well on carpets and rugs. Rather, owners say the Panasonic MC-4620 suction-only canister vacuum is a better bet for bare floors.
The Panasonic MC-4620 canister vacuum is reviewed in-depth by only two sources: ConsumerGuide.com and owners posting to Amazon.com. It's unclear if the writer for ConsumerGuide.com actually tried out this budget-priced vacuum, but at least the comments on Amazon.com are clearly based on practical testing.

1. Amazon.com
About 80 owners post their experiences with Panasonic MC-4620, giving this canister vacuum high-average ratings. Performance on bare floors is better than its carpet cleaning ability.

Some ConsumerGuide.com reviews are fair and balanced, but this blurb appears to be taken from Panasonic's press kit. However, the writer does mention that the "lightweight and convenient" Panasonic MC-4620 canister vacuum isn't good for plush carpeting since it lacks a brushroll.
