Graco ComfortSport

Pros
  • Good value
  • Comfortable
  • Reasonably easy to install
Cons
  • Straps can be difficult to adjust
  • Not particularly well suited to taller children

Reviewers say the Graco ComfortSport is a decent convertible car seat at a good price; some respected sources recommend it alongside car seats that cost around twice as much, such as the Britax Roundabout 50 Classic (*Est. $180). Parents tend to agree that the ComfortSport is easy to install and comfortable for kids.

There are drawbacks, though. Many reviewers say that the straps can be difficult to adjust, and parents caution that children outgrow the ComfortSport long before they would outgrow high-capacity models such as the Britax Roundabout or the Sunshine Kids Radian65SL (*Est. $230). The ComfortSport has one of the lowest height and weight limits in our report -- 40 inches and 5 to 30 pounds rear-facing or 20 to 40 pounds forward-facing. At about half the price, the basic Cosco Scenera (*Est. $50) gets very good reviews, and it has slightly higher height and weight limits.

ConsumerReports.org crash-tests 17 convertible car seats, including the Graco ComfortSport, in its latest roundup. "Baby Bargains," a book by Denise and Alan Fields, also has excellent coverage, with a detailed analysis of the seat's pros and cons. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration tests car seats' ease of use. EliteCarSeats.com has a short editorial review followed by some interesting owner feedback. Buzzillions.com and Amazon.com are also excellent sources of owner-written reviews of this seat.
