Several sources review the Kidde KN-COSM-IB including Consumer Reports magazine, About.com, and ConsumerGuide.com. User reviews can be found at Amazon.com.

The Kidde KN-COSM-IB is an electrical carbon monoxide and smoke detector with battery backup that can connect to other monitors in your home; if one alarm sounds, the others will, too. The KN-COSM-IB includes a smoke detector, but it uses an ionization module that will detect flames but will not work as well with smoldering fires. What makes this detector unique is the voice warning system, which announces the type of emergency (fire, carbon monoxide or low battery). This unit also features battery backup, allowing it to function during a power outage. It is sometimes sold as the Kidde 900-0114. However, if you're looking for an affordable, basic carbon monoxide detector without the bells and whistles, the Kidde KN-COB-B (*est. $25) should suit your needs.
