The Kidde 900-0146 is battery operated, so it will keep working even during a power outage (which is the time when many people use carbon monoxide-generating fireplaces or heaters). Since safety experts say the best location for a CO detector is high up on a wall, the Kidde Nighthawk allows for flexible installation. This unit has an electrochemical sensor, continuous digital readout with large backlit display, peak-level memory (which records the highest CO level), low-battery indicator, front-loading battery door and five-year limited warranty. If you're not the type who's diligent about replacing batteries, you may be better off with the plug-in Kidde Nighthawk 900-0076 (*est. $50).
