If you're looking to spend $100 or less for a lightweight carpet cleaner, reviewers say the Bissell Little Green is a handy and effective machine. It weighs 12 pounds and has two small tanks for holding the cleaning solution and the dirty water. Unlike the pricier Bissell SpotBot Pet Deep Cleaner 33N8 (*Est. $140) , which automatically scrubs the carpet itself wherever you park it, the Little Green must be operated manually. It has a 5-foot hose attachment with a 3-inch stain tool that sprays the cleaner and suctions up the backflow. Although one professional test found its cleaning performance lackluster, most users report that it does a good job on small stains.
However, users do note some drawbacks with the Little Green: They say that the sprayer covers too wide an area, the suction is weak (leaving carpets wet) and the dirty-water reservoir is hard to clean. Still, most consumers say the Little Green is easy to use and a good value. Another plus for some consumers is its use of recycled plastics and eco-friendly cleaning solutions. A similar model, the Bissell Little Green ProHeat Deep Reach Spot Cleaner (*Est. $145) has a built-in water heater, but there are few user reviews available on this model and available reviews aren't as positive as for the Little Green.
As with other portable carpet cleaners, we rely chiefly on user reviews because professional tests of carpet cleaners typically focus on upright models. We found hundreds of reviews on consumer websites that gave us a strong sense of the Little Green's strengths and weaknesses. There is also a write-up of the Bissell Little Green 14007 at About.com, and ConsumerReports.org devotes a few sentences to it in the introduction to its carpet cleaner report (although this model is not included in the ratings).
